Blue whales, dolphins and dugongs…
In October 2019, a group of 12 set out to explore one of the most undiscovered places on the planet, Timor Leste!
Timor Leste is the world’s newest country and as such is not yet on the radar of the tourists that frequent the hot spots of its nearest neighbour, Indonesia. But this makes it all the more appealing to the adventurous at heart and the rewards for getting there are breathtaking.
Timor Leste and it’s outpost Atauro Island flank the Ombai-Wetar Straight, a deep channel with once of the largest through flows of water in the world. It’s home to super pods of dolphins, pilot whales, melon-headed whales, resident sperm whales as well as having some of the most healthy and biodiverse coral reefs around today. Not only that, but the channel itself forms part of the annual migratory path of the incredible blue whales.
